Higher Humidity Lowers Risk of Flu

February 10, 2009
It's flu season and the flu can be serious - over 120,000 people get sick enough from the flu to have to go to the hospital every year. Getting a flu shot is one way to help you not get the flu.
Now a study from Mount Sinai School of Medicine in New York shows that if there is more humidity in a room, there is a lower chance of getting the flu. Humidity is the amount of moisture in the air.
So if you can, use a humidifier, or even put water in an open pot so it can evaporate and add more moisture into the air. It's an easy way to lower your chances of getting sick.
